Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician Course – Three Days (24 Hours)
Students who attend this DSHS-approved training course will learn general air sampling techniques for safety and health air monitoring. Individuals who conduct or who are responsible for industrial hygiene and environmental air monitoring and who conduct area and personal air monitoring during asbestos abatement projects in school, public buildings, and industrial facilities will find the course beneficial.
The course is required by the DSHS for people who conduct air monitoring in public buildings. The course meets the requirements of the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Act. A photo identification card and certificate of completion are presented to each person who successfully completes the course.

Course Requirements \ Information
Certification: Air Monitoring Technician
Course Fee: $399 Per Student (Minimum 5 Students)
Duration: 24 Hours
Education / Experience Required: – bachelor’s degree + 1 yr. exp. in a related field (e.g. lead, asbestos, public health, environmental remediation work, or bldg. construction trades); OR An Associate degree + 2 yrs. exp. in a related field; OR High school diploma (or equivalent) + 3 yrs. experience in a related field; OR Certification as an IH, PE, public health nurse, RS, CSP, architect, or environmental scientist.
State Examination: Yes
Function / Duty: In addition to all functions of an Inspector, perform risk assessments and lead hazard assessment activities (i.e., hazard screens) in target housing and child-occupied facilities; identify hazard control strategies to reduce or eliminate lead exposures, evaluate and interpret results of assessments; conduct post-abatement clearance sampling and evaluate results; complete a written risk assessment report.
Conditions / Restrictions: Cannot conduct or design abatement.
